BREAKING: Organized Finances, apparently not a dream

by Colleen on May.14, 2010, under Frugal Living, Giveaway, Review

I’m 35 years old, and I have never learned to budget, manage money, or save.  I’m a couple of years behind on my taxes. The government clearly loves me.

I didn’t really know how to fix my situation and so I continued to play the insanity game - keep doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different reaction - until I came across Regina Leed’s “One Year to an Organized Financial Life”.

Maybe this responsible money management thing isn’t a dream - maybe I could really do it.

The book claims it is a guide to achieving financial peace of mind “from your bills to your bank account, your home to your retirement…”.  That made me sit up  and take notice.

The only thing that I would caution readers about is that this book is US centric - using US financial advice, which of course Canadians (like me) need to disregard and do a little more sleuthing in order to get appropriate advice for us.

That said, I’m loving this book. It is helping me to create healthy financial habits, teaching me to reduce debt, get bills paid on time and stick to a budget. Starting in June, I’ll be going through the book week by week, and will relate my personal experiences here.

What’s even better is that I’ve got a copy up for grabs for 1 lucky reader. I know I can’t be the only one who needs some practical, realistic financial advice, after all.
